Install Google Analytics to your website

Part 1: To kick things off you will need to login to your Gmail account. If you don’t have one simply slick sign up on the Google Analytics home page. https://analytics.google.com

Once you’re in your account you will want to go into your Admin tab on the top left, click on the dropdown box just below the account heading and select Create new account. Fill out the viewable fields, save and you will be presented with your Unique tracking code.

If you are not using WordPress head straight over to Part 3.

Part 2: That’s your account created, great! Now open up your WordPress website. Open up your dashboard and click on plugins, select Add new, then type Google Analytics into the search field. Click on the plugin named Google analytics, install and activate that.

Once your plugin has been activated, you can go back into your dashboard and find it under settings as Google Analytics.

Click on the Google Analytics setting, now we can paste the tracking code in to the field labelled GA tracking code. Save those changes, remember to include our computers in the tracking so that we can test the code.

To test your code, simply head over to your website, click around a few buttons. Open up Google Analytics again, this time click on All website data, Realtime, Overview. This allows us to see all active clicks. If ourselves our being shown, then this is a good sign. However, to test your account again in a couple of days just to be certain.

Part 3: To place the tracking code onto your website, copy the script where it says Website tracking in your Google Analytics.

Open up your website’s index file. Now mine is located in Go daddy, however, yours could be on your own servers, on another hosting platform like Host Gator or it could be just a file on your PC which you upload to an FTP. Where ever the file, open it up. In the head section paste the script tags there and that’s literally it.

You will have to make it live to work obviously and if you want to make the code shorter instead of adding the long script. Simply create a new .JS file, paste the script code in there, save the file, copy and paste this code <script src=”” type=”text/javascript”></script> into your head tag. Make sure to change the src section to your folder and file name as each is different.

That’s it! Hope you enjoyed this video, let me know if there is anything else you need a hand with, don’t forget to subscribe for more how to online basics.
